COMMUNICATING THROUGH THE HEART CENTRED VOICE

New 5 Week Live On-line Course

How is it that one person can say the same thing as another but the words and message arrive so differently?

Often we spend a great deal of time getting the words or phrases just right or maybe take some voice lessons to improve our sound or delivery. These are of course two very important parts of a good oral communication,

but there is so much more.

“Come here” is a completely different message when said by an angry principal to a student or by a grandmother lovingly offering a present to her grandchild.

Thus the intention behind the sound is as important as the sound and will influence how we sing or speak the sound.

This course starts you on the path to discover, practice and develop a big picture of the visible and invisible aspects of communication.

To discover some of the secrets the great singers, speakers and leaders use to ensure their message is received.

From the beginning you will be practicing and exploring how you can apply these skills to communicate with greater ease, fun and clarity in your places of work, play and living.

Week 1: Giving and receiving

At this time in human history many of us have been encouraged to push through obstacles. (e.g the soldier on adds for cold medication). This translates into the idea of projecting the voice.

An alternative approach, which is much kinder and gentler on both ends of a communication, is to use giving and receiving as your intention or model. When we give we feel good.  The research shows that not only the giver and the receiver but other people near by also feel good when someone gives to another.

This can be further amplified when we give with love or bring our heart forces into the act of giving.

Week 2: Grounding and Intention

All physical activity requires a good base of support and singing and speaking are athletic activities.

An Opera singer made the statement in an interview, “That all great opera singers have to be great athletes.
The interviewer replied, “What about Pavarotti?”
The Opera singers reply was, “Beneath all that blubber is a great athlete”
Your stance and connection to the ground let your unconscious mind know you want to be active and alive and we will explore how this emerges in your voice.

Week 3: Expansion

Communication can be based on effort and force. Even the idea of projecting, which is common in singing and speaking implies effort in sending out your sound and message.

An alternative picture is to imagine expanding and allowing the strength and power in your voice and communication to come from the bigness attained by expansion. Most people have had the experience at school of knowing a teacher had come into the room even though they were behind you. Energetically they expanded into the room and you felt their presence before they spoke. This gives you a supportive space to speak into and requires far less effort than filling a void.

Week 4: Tools of speech and singing:  Vowels and consonants

Our basic tools in speech and singing are the vowels and consonants.  The consonants can be seen as the door into the room of the vowel.  They are the punctuation marks of sound.

For example if we take the word ‘But’, you can feel the power of the B to grab people’s attention and it gets you through the door to the room of the “u”. The “T” slams the door shut at the end. In contrast the vowels are where the feeling realm can be expressed by increasing or shortening the length of time the vowel is spoken.   If you say the word slowly you can experience the power of extending the vowel to emphasis your meaning. “Bu….t”

Week 5: Rhythm and beat in the timing of words and phrases.

All languages have rhythm as part of the timing of the words and sounds. Poetry and song lyrics are the places it is easiest to experience this for most people. “Row, row ,row your boat” could be said with each word having exactly the same length.  It becomes very flat and dry. (pardon the pun) However, it grabs our attention when it is said in the rhythm sung by children.
